Abu Dhabi Festival 2025 Unveils Spectacular Programme Celebrating UAE-Japan Cultural Ties

Abu Dhabi, [Date] – Under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan, the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has announced the highly anticipated programme for the 22nd Abu Dhabi Festival 2025. Running from 7 February 2025, this year’s edition, themed “Abu Dhabi – A World of Harmony,” celebrates cultural diversity, artistic excellence, and the festival’s Country of Honour: Japan, marking 50 years of UAE-Japan diplomatic relations.

A Stellar Lineup of Global Talent

The festival will showcase 12 headline performances, featuring world-exclusive productions and regional premieres. Highlights include:

  • Opening Night: The New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Yutaka Sado, with star tenor Jonathan Tetelman and pianist Kyohei Sorita (7-8 February).
  • Ramadan Special: Renowned spiritual chanter Sheikh Mahmoud El-Tohamy revives the tradition of Inshad.
  • Japanese Taiko Drumming: A powerful performance by the legendary KODO Ensemble.
  • Piano VirtuososYunchan Lim performing Bach’s Goldberg Variations and the Labèque Sisters in a mesmerizing piano duo.
  • Opera & Ballet: An Opera Gala with tenor Javier Camarena and soprano Jessica Pratt, and an All-Star Ballet Gala featuring six of the world’s top dancers.
  • Global Orchestras: The Korean National University of Arts Symphony Orchestra under Toufic Maatouk and Chi-Yong Chung.

Strengthening UAE-Japan Cultural Bonds

The festival underscores the deep diplomatic and cultural ties between the UAE and Japan, featuring collaborations with leading Japanese artists and institutions.

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan stated:

Expanding Global Cultural Diplomacy

Beyond Abu Dhabi, the festival’s international programme includes:

  • world premiere of Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande at Opéra National de Paris, directed by Wajdi Mouawad.
  • visual arts tour in partnership with Seoul Museum of Art, traveling to China, Japan, and Singapore.

H.E. Huda Al Khamis-Kanoo, ADMAF Founder, emphasized:
